Allison Helmerichs

About

Allison is a Doctorally prepared registered nurse with a focus on nursing education. Allison has been a registered nurse for over 25 years. Allison has worked in many nursing roles and areas, including medical/surgical nursing, trauma/surgical/medical ICU, Intermediate care, education, and emergency nursing. Allison is a charge nurse, preceptor, and mentor involved in numerous education and process improvement initiatives. Allison is a founding member of the orientation task force and co-developed the first simulation experiences for the emergency department's new graduate nurses. Allison is committed to developing and delivering high-quality, evidence-based education experiences using multiple teaching strategies best to meet the learning needs of the emergency nurse.

Matt Helmerichs

About

Matt is a Master's prepared Family Nurse Practitioner and currently cares for patients in the emergency setting. Matt has been a registered nurse for over 23 years and has worked primarily in emergency nursing. Matt has been a charge nurse, preceptor, and mentor and is involved with numerous process improvement initiatives. Matt is a founding member of the orientation task force and co-developed the first simulation experiences for the new graduate nurses. Matt is dedicated to teaching new emergency nurses to succeed and provide high-quality care.

Zach Norman

About

Zach has been a Baccalaureate Emergency Nurse since 2014, serving as a Staff Nurse, Preceptor, Charge Nurse, Triage Nurse, and Orientation Nurse. He is committed to developing knowledge and skills to help better patients, demonstrated through advanced certifications, including Certified Emergency Nurse, Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse, and Trauma Nurse Specialist. Zach is also a founding member of the Orientation Task Force and has participated in process improvements surrounding orientation, including Multi-disciplinary simulation, Point-of-view simulation, Preceptor Training, and measurement of learner progress. These improvements have impacted staff tenure and patient outcomes.

Ashley Collingwood

About

Ashley is a Baccalaureate-prepared Emergency Nurse with nine years of ED nursing experience. Ashley is a staff nurse, charge nurse, preceptor, Orientation Nurse, Trauma Nurse Specialist, and mentor. She is committed to providing un-biased, evidence-based education in a safe environment and utilizing different strategies that are inclusive to all learning types. Ashley is a founding member of the Orientation Task Force, participates in simulations, and enjoys leading debriefing sessions after simulations.

Rachel Hodo

About

Rachel has been in the emergency department since 2016, starting as a tech, undecided on what she wanted to do as a final career. After one year of working in emergency medicine, she decided to pursue a career in nursing and began her journey as a registered nurse in the emergency department in 2019.

Rachel got to experience firsthand the lasting impact of having a supportive and structured new grad orientation. During her time in emergency medicine, she has found a passion for mentoring new nurses and being able to talk to them and discover the barriers to them having a successful nursing career. Rachel has also seen a passion for helping some of the most vulnerable populations, including abused children & women, human trafficking victims, and sexual assault patients. She obtained her AA SANE through the state of Illinois in 2021 and has supported several others to get theirs.
